Mission:
The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners is the agency of state government with the statutory authority and responsibility to organize, develop, coordinate, and improve library services throughout the Commonwealth. The Board also strives to provide every resident of the Commonwealth with full and equal access to library information resources regardless of geographic location, social or economic status, age, level of physical or intellectual ability or cultural background.Governing Laws:

- Massachusetts Library Services and Technology Act Long-Range Plan 2018-2022: Describes the purposes for which federal Library Services and Technology Act funds will be used in Massachusetts to develop library services for all residents of the Commonwealth.
- Massachusetts Library Directory: Online directory of over 1,700 libraries that are members of the Massachusetts Library System.

- Consumer Web Portal: This web portal is a guide to library services and events for the public.
- MBLC strategic plan for FY2018-FY2022 is a living document that will evolve as circumstances change. It was developed on the basis of a participatory process involving MBLC Commissioners and staff as well as a broad and diverse group of representatives from throughout the statewide system of libraries and library support organizations.
