7035-0035 Advanced Placement Math and Science Programs
For implementation of a competitively bid, statewide performance-based, integrated program to increase participation and performance in advanced placement courses, particularly among underserved populations, to prepare students for college and career success in science, technology, engineering and mathematics; provided, that these funds shall support all of the following program elements, without exception, for each school: open access to courses, equipment and supplies for new and expanded advanced placement courses, support for the costs of advanced placement exams and support for student study sessions; provided further, that these funds may support teacher professional development, including a College Board endorsed advanced placement summer institute for math and science advanced placement teachers; provided further, that such program shall provide a matching amount of at least $1,000,000 in private funding; provided further, that the program be chosen through a single competitive process and that the funds be dispersed by the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year to cover costs expended between August 1, 2012 and July 31, 2013; provided further, that this program shall work in conjunction with an existing, separately funded statewide pre-advanced placement program; provided further, that all districts that participated in fiscal year 2012 and choose to remain in said program shall continue to receive support in fiscal year 2013; provided further, that the department shall deliver to the house and senate committees on ways and means and the joint committee on education, not later than February 15, 2013, an independent evaluation of these programs and their impact on student achievement, particularly as it relates to closing achievement gaps; and provided further, that funds may be expended through August 31, 2013 to allow for summer programming
