8315-1020 Department of Public Safety Inspection and Training Retained Revenue
For the department of public safety, which may expend not more than $4,000,000 in revenues collected from fees for annual elevator and amusement park ride inspections; provided, that funds shall be expended for the operation of the department and for the purposes of addressing the existing elevator inspection backlog; provided further, that funds shall be expended for hiring additional elevator inspectors or engineers; provided further, that the department shall conduct an analysis to improve efficiency in use of department resources and shall report the findings of its analysis to the house and senate committees on ways and means and the joint committee on public safety not later than 90 days after the effective date of this act; provided further, that the department shall make efforts to employ inspectors that will perform overnight and weekend inspections as their regular work shift; provided further, that the department shall provide a full waiver of the inspection fee for an individual who requires a wheelchair lift as a medical necessity and whose annual income does not exceed the maximum allowable federal SSI benefit, or $7,236 a year, whichever is greater; and provided further, that notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, for the purpose of accommodating timing discrepancies between the receipt of retained revenues and related expenditures, the department may incur expenses and the comptroller may certify for payment amounts not to exceed the lower of this authorization or the most recent revenue estimate as reported in the state accounting system
