7061-9612 Worcester Polytechnic Institute School of Excellence Program
For the school of excellence program at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute; provided, that every effort shall be made to recruit and serve equal numbers of male and female students; provided further, that sending districts of students attending the Institute shall not be required to expend any funds for the cost of these students while in attendance at the Institute; provided further, that the Massachusetts Academy of Mathematics and Science shall provide professional development activities at the school located at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, including salary and benefits for master teachers and visiting scholars; provided further, that the academy shall file a report with the joint committee on education and the house and senate committees on ways and means by February 1, 2008 detailing the professional development activities; provided further, that the department of education shall provide a subsidy to the Worcester Polytechnic Institute to operate a school of excellence in mathematics and science; and provided further, that not less than $650,000 shall be expended for the University of Massachusetts at Lowell to develop, plan and conduct a pilot program in preparation for establishing a new program in math, science, engineering and technology for academically accelerated students in their final 2 years of high school
